Watch: History Of The AR-15 Assault Rifle

The AR-15 is one of America’s most popular weapons, being used in almost every mass shooting in recent memory. But what is the history behind the popular semiautomatic rifle?

  1. Please change the headline, the AR 15 is not an assault rifle. Any rifle that is automatic, and therefore an assault rifle, is an M-16, not an AR 15. Also, the video said they are made by several companies. That is true. Several hundred companies. There are more accessories for the AR 15 than for cars. There are a plethora of websites dedicated solely to selling AR parts. Tens of millions of Americans own them. This is not something you can ban. At least not without significant risk of a revolution.

    • Oh, you mean like knives and screwdrivers? And cars and trucks? Some people can assault – and even kill – others with their bare hands. Should we ban them too?

Ein ledavar sof. Get over it. It’a all about people and responsibility, not weapons.

    • The term Assault Rifle means a specific category of rifles which have certain characteristics. One of these characteristics is that an Assault Rifle is automatic. The AR 15 is Semi-Automatic, so it is not an assault rifle.

  2. There are unfortunately more deaths every year by bathtub drownings than by shootings. How can you argue with data/facts? This whole conversation is absurd. Evil people kill people. They will use any method necessary to carry out their evil deed.

    • “There are unfortunately more deaths every year by bathtub drownings than by shootings.”
False. Omitting two words from the original quote totally changes its meaning. Here’s the full quote, with the missing words hilighted:
“Far more children died last year drowning in their bathtubs than were killed accidentally by guns.”
