A Texas man was busted in Poland for trying to steal part of a train track at the former Auschwitz concentration camp during a group tour to the site.
The 37-year-old man, who was not identified, will likely face two years’ probation after confessing to the crime, which occurred Saturday, police spokeswoman Malgorzata Jurecka told ABC News.
He was charged with “attempted theft of an item of cultural important from the Holocaust memorial site” at Auschwitz-Birkenau, said Jurecka. He originally faced 10 years in prison.
