It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rebbetzin Yenta Gittel Schwab a”h.
The Rebbetzin was the wife of Rav Mordechai Menachem Schwab zt”l, mashgiach of Mesivta Bais Shraga of Monsey.
Rebbetzin Schwab was born in Malch, got married in Kaminetz, and later escaped with her husband, Rav Mordechai, along with the Mirrer Yeshiva to Shanghai.
At talmid of Kaminetz and Mir, under the tutelage of Rav Yeruchem Levovitz and Rav Chatzkel Levenstein, Rav Schwab was one of the great tzaddikim and baalei mussar of his time. People from all over would journey to Monsey to seek his advice. For thirty-one years, Bais Shraga was his makom Torah and avodah, initially as a maggid shiur and then as mashgiach ruchni. Through his inspiring sichos mussar, sublime tefillos, loving middos, and devotion to kiddush sheim Shomayim, he motivated generations of talmidim to strive for new heights in limud haTorah and shemiras hamitzvos. Rav Schwab’s very essence was seared in the minds and souls of decades of talmidim.
Standing behind him throughout his married life was his devoted wife, Rebbetzin Schwab, who gave her all so that her husband could dedicate himself to avodas Hashem and to Klal Yisroel.
The Rebbetzin was a great woman in her own right. She personified the greatness of an aim b’Yisroel, exemplifying modesty, integrity, and selflessness.
The Schwabs were residents of Monsey for 58 years.
The Rebbetzin is survived by her children, Rebbetzin Milky Forst, wife of Rav Binyomin Forst of Far Rockaway; Rabbi Yehoshua Schwab of Eretz Yisroel; Rabbi Moshe Schwab of Monsey; Rebbetzin Esther Levenberg, wife of Rav Yehuda Levenberg of Lakewood; Rebbetzin Leah Weissman, wife of Rav Nosson Weissman of Passaic; Rebbetzin Rochel Feurst, wife of Rav Moshe Feurst; and Rabbi Yisroel Chaim Schwab of Monsey. She was predeceased by her son, Rabbi Yehudah Schwab z”l, of Monsey.
