Rebbetzin Leah Auerbach a”h

candle-small4It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rebbetzin Leah Auerbach a”h, wife of Rav Ezriel Auerbach and daughter of Maran Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv. The Rebbetzin passed away this morning at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim. She was 72.

Rebbetzin Auerbach was renowned for the warmth and concern she displayed to the countless individuals who passed through the portal of her home, as she showered them with love and worried for their every need. At the same time, she served as a faithful eizer kenegdo, allowing her illustrious husband to involve himself in Torah and myriad acts of chessed and tzorchei tzibbur.

Rav Auerbach, a son of Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zt”l, is a world renowned talmid chochom and prominent posek who serves as rov of Bais Knesses Chanichei Hayeshivos in Bayit Vegan. He is also the head of the Vaad Harabbonim L’inyonei Tzedakah, a member of the Vaad Harabbonim of Eizer Mitzion, and a member of Vaad Harabbonim L’inyonei Takshoret, in addition to other positions he holds.

Two days ago, Rav Elyashiv visited his daughter in the hospital. The Rebbetzin asked him, “Why did you bother to come visit me? I’d rather that you be able to learn Torah.” Rav Elyashiv reportedly responded, “Leah, it’s worth it.”

The levaya will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Bais Medrash Chanichei Hayeshivos at 67 Rechov Hapisgah in Bayit Vegan, Yerushalayim. Kevurah will take place on Har Hamenuchos.

The family members, including the Rebbetzin’s sister, Rebbetzin Batsheva Kanievsky, wife of Rav Chaim Kanievsky, will be sitting shivah in Yerushalayim.

Yehi zichrah boruch.
