Lakewood, NJ – Matzav.com has learned that Rav Shmuel Yaakov Borenstein, renowned rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Kiryas Melech in Bnei Brak, will be the featured guest speaker at Beth Medrash Govoha’s Annual Evening of Chizuk on June 20.
Rav Borenstein was born shortly after World War II to his parents, Reb Yissochor Dov and Mrs. Yehudis Tziviah Borenstein, who were Gerrer Chassidim. In his youth, he learned at Yeshiva Tiferes Tzvi in Yerushalayim and the Chevron Yeshiva. He then joined Yeshivas Mir-Yerushalayim, where he heard shiurim from the roshei yeshiva, Rav Chaim Shmulevitz and Rav Nachum Partzovitz. Rav Shmuel Yaakov is one of the most prominent talmidim of Rav Chaim Shmulevitz and was in fact involved in the preparation of Rav Chaim’s seforim, Shaarei Chaim.
Rav Borenstein, who is known for his brilliance in Torah and comprehensive shiurim, served as a R”M at Yeshiva Nachlas Dovid in Petach Tikvah and then as a rosh yeshiva at Yeshiva Chevron Geulah. He was later appointed as rosh yeshiva at Kiryas Melech and relocated to Bnei Brak.
Rav Borenstein is the author of sefer Zos L’Yaakov al haTorah and on several masechtos of Shas.
Rav Borenstein’s rebbetzin is a daughter of Rav and Rebbetzin Yosef Yehudah Leib Kleiner. Rebbetzin Kleiner was a daughter of Rav Avrohom Yitzchok Bloch, rov and rosh yeshiva of Telshe, Lithuania, and one of the gedolei Lita.
The upcoming Beth Medrash Govoah Annual Evening of Chizuk, to take place at the corner of Cedar Bridge and New Hampshire Avenues in Lakewood, will celebrate the achievements of the 6,500 talmidim of the yeshiva and will raise funds that are allocated superficially for the 2,500 avreichem who are on the yeshiva‘s kollel payroll. The annual kollel budget of the yeshiva is now $10 million.
The yeshiva has held various Shabbosos of Chizuk ahead of the event, with the roshei yeshiva and mashgiach spending Shabbos in a number of Lakewood neighborhoods.
