Preparations Underway for Atzeres Tefillah This Sunday

asifa-tefillah1New York – Yidden from the tri-state area will be participating in an atzeres tefillah in Lower Manhattan this Sunday.

The gathering will echo last week’s huge atzeres tefillah in Yerushalyim, which brought out hundreds of thousands of Jews in response to the Israeli government’s ongoing attempt at social engineering of the chareidi community, including wholesale conscription of bnei yeshiva.

A kol koreh signed by admorim, roshei yeshiva and rabbonim supporting the atzeres will be released today.

The asifah will take place on Water Street in, between Fulton Street and Broad Street, in Lower Manhattan, this Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m. The program will begin with Minchah, followed by Tehillim and tefillos, led by rabbonim.

A special area for women is being arranged.

The podium where the shliach tzibbur will stand will be on the corner of Water Street and Old Slip, midway between Broad Street and Wall Street.

Ahead the atzeres tefillah, a teleconference outlining the purpose of the gathering and details regarding the logistics of the day’s events will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The call-in number is 212.444.1323.

Those who plan to attend are urged to utilize public transportation .

The weather on Sunday is expected to be in the low 40s with calm winds.

There will be a significant security presence in the area.

  1. An easy option for those traveling from NJ is to drive to Staten Island, park by the ferry terminal at St. George (parking is free on Sundays) and take the ferry (also free) to lower Manhattan. The terminal is right near the asifa location, I think. The ferry ride is every half hour, and takes half an hour.

  2. Isn’t it a bit strange that there are no official letters, signs etc with signatures? Its already Wed night and other then here and a few other sites there is nothing. I got an email about a tel conference tomorrow but isn’t Thursday afternoon late for many people to plan for Sunday? Something doesn’t add up

  3. To Strange,

It normally takes weeks to pull something like this together, here it’s being done in days.

The signatures will likely be published Thursday.
