Police: NY Judge’s Death Likely Suicide

The New York state judge who was found dead in the Hudson River on Wednesday likely committed suicide, a police official told the New York Daily News. Officials are awaiting autopsy results for the Court of Appeals judge, Sheila Abdus-Salaam, before making an official determination.

Abdus-Salaam, 65, who lived in Harlem, was fully clothed when her body was recovered and there were no signs of body trauma. The police source told the Daily News that Abdus-Salaam struggled with depression. She was the country’s first female Muslim judge, and was appointed to her role in 2013 by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Read more at NEW YORK DAILY NEWS.
