An Israeli court on Thursday filed charges against a Palestinian man for the murder of Israeli teenager Ori Ansbacher last month.
Arafat Irfaiya, a 29-year-old Hebron resident, was arrested in February in connection with Ansbacher’s murder after the Jewish teenager from the West Bank settlement of Tekoa was found dead with multiple stab wounds to her body in a Jerusalem forest.
During his interrogation, Irfaiya confessed to assaulting and murdering 19-year-old Ansbacher, admitting that the gruesome attack had been motivated by Palestinian nationalism. Israel’s Channel 13 news reported that Irfayia told Shin Bet interrogators: “I entered Israel with a knife because I wanted to become a martyr and murder a Jew.”
Earlier this week, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) handed a demolition order to Irfaiya’s family for the destruction of parts of the home he occupied.
