NY State Court of Appeals Rules To Allow Kapparos

The New York State Court of Appeals ruled on Wednesday that the annual Kapparos ritual does not amount to animal cruelty. The decision upholds a ruling from a lower court.

The lawsuit had been brought by an animal rights group named ‘The Alliance to End Chickens as Koporos’. who alleged that the ritual is “cruel unsanitary and in violation of 15 known laws”. The group sought a court order mandating the New York Police Department (NYPD) to crack down on Kapparot before next year’s Yom Kippur.

Following the ruling, the Alliance promised to press on and explore other options.

  1. Allowing abortion and toieva marriages is okay. Kaporos should be against the law? Hypocrites they all are, from the top to the bottom. Next Aserses Ymei Teshuvah, instead of standing around gawking at these hypocrites when they come to a kaporos center, bring signs and scream “Abortion Yes, Chicken rights” or “Babies No, Chickens Yes” or “Babies for Kaporos, save the Chicken”.
    Completely sickened by these abominations.
