It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Mr. Henry Merlis z”l of Cedarhurst, NY. He was 94 years old.
Born on August 16, 1924, Mr. Merlis worked for decades as a teacher at various New York City schools, including a number of yeshivos, such as Yeshiva Torah Temimah in Brooklyn.
A US Army veteran, Mr. Merlis was an exceptional teacher, who kept his classes interesting and engaged his students with his unique sense of humor and quick wit.
A genuine mentch with a kind heart, Mr. Merlis, and his wife, Helene, raised three outstanding sons, Mitch z”l, Mark and Paul. Mitch and Paul are well known for having played varsity basketball and for the wrestling skills, but Mr. Merlis’ children clearly carried on his simchas hachaim, his love of Hashem and His people, and a desire to make the world a better place.
Mr. Merlis was a teacher’s teacher and his memory will live on in the hearts of the students he taught and touched.
