Monticello is giving favored police chief candidate William Goble until July 4 to accept the job or the village will move to have an open test, Village Manager John LiGreci said Tuesday.
The Village Board approved a contract paying Goble $85,000 to replace former police Chief Doug Solomon, LiGreci said.
Goble had not responded as of Thursday, one day after the village sent a letter giving him a week to accept the offer.
Absent a response, the village wants to have a retest open to applicants outside the Monticello police force, LiGreci said.
