MK Miki ZoharBusinesses open in Israel on Shabbos will be fined three times their proceeds for the day and be open to suits from rivals.

Despite efforts by the Kulanu Party to prevent the vote, the ministerial legislative committee today approved a bill forbidding businesses to operate on Shabbos.

Under the proposed bill submitted by MK Miki Zohar (Likud), a business working on Shabbos will be fined three times its turnover for that day.

The bill also stipulates that the business owner will be exposed to civil actions by competing businesses suffering damage because that business was open on Shabbos.

  1. Wow!! What an amazing accomplishment! חזק וברוך! This will generate an amazing zechut for Bnei Yisrael, even if people continue to desecrate Shabbat privately. It might also inspire some to further thei observance of Shabbat, now that the yetzer of making money on the holy day took a hit.
