McConnell: Trump Had ‘Excessive’ Legislative Expectations

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vented this week about the lofty expectations President Trump set for Congress. “Part of the reason I think that the storyline is that we haven’t done much is because in part the president and others have set these early timelines about things need to be done by a certain point,” McConnell said at a Rotary Club event in his native Kentucky. “Our new president, of course, has not been in this line of work before. And I think [Trump] had excessive expectations about how quickly things happen in the democratic process.”

The 115th Congress has been labeled a “do-nothing” body, and McConnell says that’s partly due to Trump setting “artificial deadlines” for his legislative priorities such as health care and tax reform. Read more at ABC NEWS.

  1. Yeah, it’s so unreasonable, even unseemly, to ask McConnell to do the people’s work instead of his own selfish priorities.

  2. Our elected officials first priority is……………….to get reelected.
Their next priority is……………………… raise enough money to get reelected.
Their third priority is………………………………to help some of their donors and friends.
Then, if they get around to it, they will see what their constituents need and talk about it so that it looks like they’re doing something and for that they will get reelected.

Let’s go back to the original idea of a part time legislature where the elected officials go to Washington, DC for 3 months of the year with the concerns of their constituents. It worked very well in the past and things got done.

  3. McConnell sounds quite reasonable. Someone (Trump) with no experience is convinced that he, and only he, can make things happen, and when it doesn’t go the way he expects he blames everyone but himself

  4. The politicians have shown what they are about looking busy and accomplishing nothing while attacking anyone who treis to fix anything
