The Los Angeles community held an evening of appreciation in honor of Rav and Rebbetzin Avrohom Teichman on Thursday, August 17, at Kanner Hall.
The Teichmans are relocating shortly to the East Coast.
Rabbi Teichman has been a community leader in kashrus issues, most notably with Kehilla Kosher.
The farewell event was sponsored by Agudath Israel Bais Avigdor, Hatzolah of Los Angeles, and Errol and Pat Fine.
Rav Teichman originally went to Los Angeles to be a menahel at Rav Simcha Wasserman’s yeshiva and then at Yeshiva Toras Emes. Rav Teichman is the rosh av bais din of Bais Din Choshen Mishpat and Even Ha’ezer, a mesader gittin, the rov of Los Angeles Hatzolah, the rov of Agudath Yisroel Bais Avigdor, and the founder of the Kehilla Kosher kashrus organization.
At the farewell event, Rav Teichman described the miracles that saved his future father-in-law, Rav Yisroel Snow, who survived the rioting in Chevron in 1929, and his own parents, who survived Auschwitz. He then described the tremendous influence of his parents. He spoke of the Los Angeles frum community, whose growth and development have been due to the efforts of Holocaust Jews who settled in the wilds of California.
He concluded by thanking the community for their goodness and expressed his feelings that he and the rebbetzin would not forget the Yidden of Los Angeles.
