North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan, elected in 2008, is kicking off the program. She is focusing her speech on her home state.

Other speakers expected to address the convention include several celebrities who have endorsed Obama’s reelection campaign, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts and Vice President Joe Biden.

Tonight’s program is taking place at Time Warner Cable Arena, though convention organizers had originally scheduled the night’s session for a 74,000-seat football stadium. Convention organizers moved the speech because of forecasts calling for rain and thunderstorms.
