Israel To Transfer Terrorists’ Bodies To Palestinians

abbasThe Israeli government has instructed the security establishment to prepare for the transfer of 100 bodies of Palestinian terrorists who are buried in Israel to the Palestinian Authority, Ynet reported today.

An agreement on the transfer was apparently reached during Saturday’s meeting between Israeli envoy Yitzchak Molcho and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.

About a year ago Israel agreed to transfer 84 bodies to the Palestinians, but the plan was put on hold after it was made public.

Following the meeting in Ramallah, during which the envoy handed Abbas a letter from Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu regarding the possibility of jumpstarting negotiations, the sides issued a joint statement saying “Israel and the Palestinian Authority are committed to achieving peace, and the sides hope the exchange of letters between President Abbas and Prime Minister Netanyahu will contribute to this.”

During the meeting Abbas also discussed the hunger strike launched by some 1,600 Palestinian prisoners, which ended Monday after Israel agreed to accept some of their demands.

In return, the prisoners pledged “to absolutely stop terror activity from inside Israeli jails.”

Last week the Palestinian leader said that the death of any one of the hundreds of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike in Israel would be a “disaster” and could trigger a backlash that might slip out of control.
