Israel Coming Closer To Launching Its Own ‘Air Force One’

air-force-oneThe Knesset Finance Committee approved today the acquisition of an official aircraft for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. Committee Chair Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism) said that “buying an official aircraft is the right step, and we should evaluate the financial aspects of such an acquisition.””I have requested that the Finance Ministry reply within a month regarding the estimated costs, and whether they were going to proceed on the topic,” Gafni added.

He also said that he discussed the topic with a Shin Bet official who told him that security-wise an official aircraft at the PM’s disposal was a good idea.

An official in the Prime Minister’s Bureau, Drorit Stein, said that the initiative would be positively considered over the next few days, and that having his own aircraft would definitely be in the prime minister’s favor.

Ayala Avraham Halevi of the Finance Ministry said that in the next two weeks the ministry will receive all the information regarding the costs of upholding an official aircraft and will report back to the Finance Committee following further evaluation.
