Important Traffic Light Approved For Avenue J And East 32nd

traffic-light Brooklyn, NY – The NYC Department of Transportation will be installing a much-needed traffic light on Avenue J at East 32nd Street. The intersection was the scene of a horrific accident, reported by various news sources, in which a 6-year old boy was hit by a van, leaving him in a vegetative state.

After meeting with the boy’s relatives and receiving numerous calls from concerned residents,  Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein coordinated a request for the installation of traffic controls with Assemblywoman Rhoda Jacobs, Councilmembers Lew Fidler, and Jumaane Williams, the elected officials who represent the intersection.

“As parents of a visually impaired child, my husband and I were extremely concerned with the traffic speeding down Avenue J,” said Leah Zagelbaum, a longtime resident of the neighborhood. “We are delighted that there will be a traffic signal at this intersection and applaud the DOT for responding to the needs of the community, and especially to Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein for outstanding concern for her constituents – we turned to her to help us get a traffic signal at this dangerous intersection and are grateful for her efforts in making it happen.”

The Department of Transportation originally denied the elected official’s demand for these traffic controls, but has now thankfully reversed the decision, following a request to update accident data from the NYPD’s 63rd Precinct. The installation of the traffic light will take place before October 31st.
