Health Department Has Overpaid $1.3B On Medicaid Since 2012

The NY state Health Department spent nearly $1.3 billion on unnecessary Medicaid payments over the course of six years, according to State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, the NEW YORK POST reports.

DiNapoli released an audit on Wednesday, claiming the state paid medical bills for people who had private insurance

“Glitches in the state Department of Health’s payment system and other problems led to over a billion dollars in unnecessary spending,” DiNapoli said. “The department needs to improve its procedures and stop this waste of taxpayer money.”

Health Department spokeswoman Jill Montage said the agency is addressing the problem and will try to claw back the cash. Read more at the NEW YORK POST.
