Councilman Levin Condemns Attack On Frum Williamsburg Man

Councilman Stephen Levin Brooklyn – Councilman Stephen Levin is condemning an attack after a 25 year-old Chassidic resident of Williamsburg was shot multiple times in a failed robbery attempt at the Taylor-Wythe Houses Friday night while heralding the victim’s exceptional bravery. Council Member Levin has been in contact numerous times with the NYPD since the attack and he is encouraged that the NYPD is not only working extraordinarily hard, but also that NYPD is making headway in their investigation.

After a prolonged struggle the victim was left with multiple gunshot wounds to his hands and feet while the assailant left the scene of the crime. Thankfully, the victim is currently recovering in an area hospital.

Levin, elected officials, and community leaders are tentatively holding a 1:00 PM press conference Sunday and will be following up with details shortly.

Council Member Stephen Levin said, “The people of New York deserve to live without fear that these types of acts will transpire and none of us can rest until the criminal responsible for this action is brought to justice. I want to thank the NYPD for their amazing work and recognize the diligence of Deputy Inspector DiPaolo, Deputy Inspector Kemper, Inspector Obe, Captain Magrone, and all the detectives that have been working on the case. They were on the scene immediately and have been working around the clock to ensure that justice is done. The victim of this horrible crime fought bravely to defend himself and we are all thankful that he is recovering. If anyone has any relevant information, please call the NYPD Crimestoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.”

“Each and every member of the community wants to live in peace and are especially saddened that this attack occurred on the Sabbath,” said Rabbi David Niederman, Executive Director of United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg. “We are impressed by the bravery exhibited by the victim in his self-defense and thankful he is recovering in the hospital. The community thanks the NYPD who have demonstrated once again that they will not rest until the assailant is found and brought to justice.”
