In a recent weekly drosha, Chief Rabbi Rav Yitzchak Yosef attacked the rabbis of the Tzohar movement.
“To our great sorrow, the rabbis of Tzohar are doing very severe things,” he said. “They go and appoint a female rabbi and she has to lecture before the whole tzibbur on Shabbos night, Hashem yeracheim. They honor a woman to say the sheva brachos… How is this possible?”
“People sometimes get confused,” he went on. “They see the power of [Rav Ovadiah Yosef’s sefer] Yabia Omer to find leniencies and they tell people that everything is permitted. This is not true. Everything has halachic boundaries.”
In response, Tzohar accused Rav Yosef of “causing tremendous damage to Toras Yisroel and to the honor of the Israeli Rabbinate.”
