A Chicago police officer and several other people, including the apparent shooter, were killed in an attack at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center on the South Side that brought out a large police presence Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The officer was critically injured in the shooting about 3:20 p.m. at the hospital at 2525 S. Michigan Ave. in the Bronzeville neighborhood, a police spokesman said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

About 4:40 p.m., the hospital announced by tweet that police had secured the hospital “and patients are safe.”

  1. Ah, because a police office was shot, that’s why it’s reported. Otherwise, their weekly crimes and shooting killing dozens in a gun free city does not even merit to get reported.

  2. So why do the black residents keep voting for the WHITE Rahm Emanuel?! Just because he once worked for Obama?! The taxpayers of Chicago are some of the dumbest people to walk on the face of the earth.

  3. Unfortunately, the media refuses to point out that this attack occurred in a state mandated “gun-free zone”. Permitted concealed handguns are banned in public or private hospitals or hospital affiliate, and mental health facility or nursing home.

What a shame that innocents are prohibited from carrying guns to shoot back in defense of their own lives!
