Agudah Shuts Its New Blog Following Matzav Report

8 reported yesterday that Agudas Yisroel of America has, for the first time, established a blog to post news and updates about the organization.

“It’s clear that this blog is all about News at Agudath Israel of America,” quoted Leah Zagelbaum, Director of Communications for Agudas Yisroel of America, as saying. “I’ll be posting press releases, pictures and information about Agudah activities. I’m hoping this will be a forum for sharing breaking news, interesting events and important statements. Hope you’ll check back often and look forward to your input and interest.”

However, by last night, just hours following‘s report, the site was shuttered and Agudas Yisroel released a statement that it had received inquiries about “a site on the internet featuring information about the organization and its activities.”

In its statement, the Agudah says, “The site, started a few days ago without authorization by Agudath Israel’s recently appointed director of communications, was established with good intentions, for informational purposes only and with no interactive capacity. However, in accordance with a decision made years ago by the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah, Agudath Israel has purposely not established a dedicated web presence. At best, it was premature for the new site to have been established, and it has now been removed pending further direction from the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah.”

  1. It sounds like the site was a trial balloon. Having a website with no interactive capacity is a waste and pointless. If Matzav’s reporting about the website caused the site to be shuttered, it was well worth the publicity.

  2. I think everyone needs to come to the reality the majority of us use the internet for information. Amongst that info will be: kashrus status, shiurim, jewish events, advice etc. We all know the harm that can come from internet as well. Use it for good purposes!

  3. All funding and programs are internet based and not just by email.
    all banking is internet based.
Practically every major tzedakah solicits on the internet.

  4. If Matzav is allowed to publish news from various sources around the world, why can’t the Agudah communicate their own news and only their news?
