[Videos and photos below.] Last night, the annual dinner to benefit Tomchei Shabbos of Lakewood was held at Bais Faiga Hall in Lakewood. An overflow crowd gathered to support this choshuveh organization and to hear the special guest speaker at the event, Rav Yissocher Frand, noted maggid shiur, speaker and R”M at Yeshiva Ner Yisroel of Baltimore.
Rav Frand, in his inspiring speech, said that Tomchei Shabbos is a misnomer. “It should be called ‘Tomchei Tuesday,'” he related, since the organization provides food for every day of the month, not just Shabbos. Rav Frand’s remarkable oratory left the crowd uplifted and determined to contribute just a bit more to this important mosad.
Tomchei Shabbos’s indefatigable Director of Development, Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchok Trainer, relates that Tomchei Shabbos had a budget of $1,771,170.96 for fiscal year 2009.
The dinner was the zenith of this year’s campaign for Tomchei Shabbos and was dedicated l’illui nishmas Rav Shimon Newhouse z”l, known as a yedid ne’eman of Tomchei Shabbos, whose brother addressed the gathering. The crowd heard divrei pesicha from Rav Yeruchem Olshin, Rosh Yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha.
