Rav Nosson Gestetner’s Yeshiva Forced to Close Just Months After His Petirah

rav-gestetnerJust three months after the passing of Rav Nosson Gestetner zt”l, his yeshiva, Yeshiva Ponim Me’iros, located on Rechov Rav Ashi in Kiryas Agudas Yisroel in Bnei Brak, is being forced to close its doors, Matzav.com has learned. The yeshiva‘s administrators came to that distressing conclusion today after assessing the mosad‘s dire financial state.

The petirah of Rav Gestetner was the coup de grâce, sealing the fate of the yeshiva, which will continue operating until the conclusion of this zeman, but will not reopen after Pesach. Rav Gestetner used to travel to chutz la’aretz to raise much needed funds to sustain the yeshiva, and since his petirah, the yeshiva has not had the funds necessary to operate.

Rav Gestetner, author of Lehoros Nosson and rov of Kiryas Agudas Yisroel in Bnei Brak, was one of the senior gedolei Torah and poskim of Eretz Yisroel, He was 78 at the time of his petirah. During his decades of harbotzas haTorah, Rav Gestetner, a descendant of the Chasam Sofer, authored over sixty seforim and kuntreisim.

Rav Gestetner’s grandson, Rav Meir Chaim Gestetner, R”M at the yeshiva, following his zaide‘s petirah, undertook to carry the responsibilities of keeping the yeshiva going, trying to raise monies for that purpose and adding the name “Lehoros Nosson” to the name of the yeshiva to perpetuate Rav Gestetner’s legacy. He encountered great difficulties, however, raising the funds needed for the yeshiva.

  1. What a shame! There’s money for everything else. There’s money for the latest model cars, Florida vacations, eating out in restaurants, new clothing, Jewelry,Shaitels, and even Tzedakah for fancy organizations in big halls with huge journals, BUT NO MONEY FOR YESHIVOS? FOR TORAH?!

    Shame on us.

Anybody not paying full tuition, where they would be able to if they REALLY tried, should be ashamed.

  2. #1 You are describing a very small minority of people, the day to day human being is struggling to keep his head above water.
