Rav Gavriel Toledano zt”l

It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Gavriel Toledano zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Ohr Boruch of Yerushalayim and author of sefer Mitzadei Gover on Shas and Goal Yisroel al haTorah. He was 79.

Rav Toledano had been hospitalized for the past two weeks at Shaarei Tzedek Hospital in Yerushalayim.

This past week, Rav Toledano’s son-in-law, Rav Shalom Bitton, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Daas Chaim, went to Bnei Brak to ask Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman if the family should add a name to Rav Toledano, as is customary in cases of very serious illnesses. He also asked Rav Shteinman that if the answer is yes, what name should be added.

Rav Shteinman answered that they should add the name Malkiel as a tefillah for Hashem’s greatness to be revealed in the world through the healing of Rav Toledano.

Unfortunately, Rav Toledano, a noted marbitz Torah and rosh yeshiva, was taken from our midst today.

A son of Rav Shlomo Toledano, Rav Gavriel was born in Morocco and studied in France before joining Ponovezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, where he learned under Rav Elazar Menachem Man Shach zt”l, on whose yahrtzeit he was niftar.

The levaya will be held this evening, at 8 p.m., at Yeshiva Ohr Boruch in the Bayit Vegan section of Yerushalayim. Kevurah will follow on Har Hamenuchos.

Yehi zichro boruch.
