Israel fired a Tamuz missile at a Syrian post after Syrian mortar shells reportedly fell on the Israel-occupied Golan Heights today, a military spokesperson told Xinhua.
Israeli media reported that the missile hit a Syrian post near the village of Breikeh and destroyed it.
The military spokesperson, on condition of anonymity, said the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) believes that the mortar shells are a spillover from the ongoing fighting in Syria.
The IDF has notified the UN troops on the Golan Heights of the incident.
As the battles in Syria intensify, tension mounts in northern Golan Heights, whose western part was annexed by Israel.
