New York – Mayor Mike Bloomberg got a taste of his own medicine when inspectors from the city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene interrupted his meal at Midtown’s swanky La Grenouille.
Bloomberg, we’re told, was at a private party in the restaurant’s upstairs room earlier this month when an inspector showed up smack in the middle of dinner service at 8:30 p.m., spies said. “The restaurant had to stop all activities,” said a source. “And even Bloomberg had to wait.”
We hear the mayor’s meal was held up for an hour as the inspector poked through the kitchen and brought service to a standstill – and then gave the place an “A” grade.
Bloomberg’s window-grade system has divided restaurateurs and their foodie fans, but having inspectors frequently barge into places during peak meal times has left a sour taste in the mouths of customers and owners alike.
When we contacted the illustrious French eatery, maitre d’, Armel Gren, confirmed an inspector arrived during dinner on March 5, and the mayor “had to wait,” but, “it was not an hour.” A rep for Bloomberg had no comment.
