53 Bodies Found in Indonesia Plane Crash


Trigana AirOfficials said Tuesday there was “no chance” of survivors after rescuers recovered 53 bodies of the 54 people on board the Trigana Air plane that crashed into the mountainous region of eastern Papua province.

“The plane was totally destroyed and all the bodies were burned and difficult to identify,” National Search and Rescue Agency chief Henry Bambang Soelistyo said. “There is no chance anyone survived.”

All passengers were Indonesians, including three local government officials and two members of the local parliament who were traveling to Oksibil to attend a ceremony for the 70th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence from Dutch colonial rule.

The plane was flying from Jayapura to Oksibil when it lost contact during bad weather. Read more.
